OUR HISTORY

Posh Petals was founded over twelve years ago by Elizabeth Schenk. Elizabeth’s love for floral design and creating truly unique pieces began back in college and then blossomed into an entire business passionate about creating custom arrangements for events and deliveries. Elyse Riemersma joined the team over five years ago to offer clients coordination and planning services in addition to floral. She helps plan all the details, large and small, to create your perfect event. Today, working out of their boutique on the west side of Grand Rapids, the entire Posh team is excited to help clients with all their floral, planning and design needs.

Hey there! I’m Elizabeth, an owner here at Posh Petals. I started this business about ten years ago as something I did on the side while working full time as a systems analyst for a corporate company. As the business started taking off, I was so blessed that my employer at the time was flexible with my schedule… and they also supported me when I chose to leave and pursue this wonderful business as a retail and event florist. My little toddler boys, Waylon and George, are so cute and sweet — I love being a #boymom! I couldn’t ask for a better team at Posh. The girls we have on-staff are hands down the most wonderful employees and all-around good people. Life has given me many blessings throughout the years, and I strive to be positive and happy even on the days when things become a little cloudy. What is your favorite flower? Impossible to list just one. I am a huge fan of sweet peas, clematis, lilacs and of course ranunculus. If I can ever get my hands on King Protea, I scoop them up in an instant. And… although I’m not always a fan of the classic red rose, I’ll take a chic new rose variety any day! The girls at the shop always hear me gushing about how pretty the flowers are — it seems like no matter how long I’ve been a florist, flowers never get dull. What do you love most about your job? I can’t choose! (And I’m obviously indecisive.) As the owner, I absolutely love seeing the business grow and change on a daily basis. As an employer, I can’t get enough of seeing my staff become better designers; and watching them set goals, improve their skills and tackle anything I throw at them. What inspires you? My staff, my family and the community of business owners in West Michigan. Each of these things inspires me in different ways and I learn from them all every single day.

Hello! My name is Sam, and I started here as a floral designer in the heat of wedding season 2017! I can most often be found designing wedding floral, and I love that one week I could be installing a custom floral arbor and designing tall statement pieces the next. Each wedding is different, and I love the challenge it brings. Flowers and plants are something I have always loved and held dear, and I wanted a career that included a creative outlet for my always-moving mind. So here I am! Working with amazing women and beautiful blooms, I’ve never had a place that I’ve felt most at home. What is your favorite flower? Jeez. I have so very many. The girls at the shop make fun of me because I say “I’m going to cry” every time I see a crazy pretty ranunculus. So, I am going to say ranunculus. What do you love most about your work? I love that I get to use my hands to make things that bring joy to other people every day. There is something gratifying about being able to bring a smile to a strangers face just by delivering a flower arrangement or creating their wedding flowers. What inspires you? I am inspired everyday by the people I know and love; by the trials they have overcome and HOW they’ve overcome them. I find that learning about life and failures and successes all inspires me to be the best me I can. People inspire me to live my life to its fullest potential.

Hi everyone! Let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Stephani, feel free to call me Steph. I am known as the crazy plant lady, as I have over 57 houseplants. My love for plants drew me to start floral design. I’ve been a studying art for the last 6 years, everything from illustration to pottery. Yet, nothing has quite captivated me like floral design! What is your favorite flower? Oh jeez, I’ve been dreading this question! It’s so hard for me to choose. I love everything from a simple wax flower to a garden rose. But if you really push me, I think I would have to say a Passion Flower. What do you love most about your work? I love being able to create living art; it takes 3D design to another level for me. I also love creating art that everyone can enjoy and find joy in. Handing someone a bouquet and seeing their face light up is very rewarding. What inspires you? I seem to find my inspiration from the simple things in life. Watching the sun gleam through the leaves of a tree, or listening to the wind blow through a forest. Humanity is another source of inspiration; seeing someone enjoy their work and succeed in life fills me with motivation to continue doing what I love.

    Kara Wilkinson
Hi! My name is Kara. I am new to Posh but have been designing for almost 5 years in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I found a passion for floral work while studying botany in collage and very much appreciated the creative outlet flowers gave me. Working with my hands has become an important part of who I am and how I want to spend my time. I have fallen blissfully in love with the pursuit of this craft and am so happy to be a part of the Posh team! What is your favorite flower? As far as flowers go, I am partial to lilac and forget-me-not; they are tricky to work with but if I get my hands on them for designing I am the happiest gal! What do you love most about your job? I love the medium of flowers more than anything, the tactile experience of working with them is totally magic to me. There is something so genuine about giving flowers to others- they are not an everlasting gift, but a fleeting beauty that has the ability to captivate people none the less, and being able to share that with others is incredibly gratifying. What inspires you? I pull quite a bit of inspiration from the natural world, primarily the woods and waterways of the Upper Peninsula where I started developing my passion for floral work. Nature and her realm provide all the materials needed to create a beautiful bouquet, with textures, colors and the lot. I love all things botanical, growing and green which lends to my more sprawling, organic design style.

    Vicki
My name is Vicki, and I am the event prep guru. After working in the automotive field for over 10 years, I decided it was time for a major change in careers and have been with Posh Petals for 5 years now. I started working for Posh Petals when the owner, Elizabeth, was still slangin' flowers in her basement. At first I just helped with the event setups on the weekends, then went on to assisting Elizabeth making floral arrangements. I was definitely born with the organizing gene, which is displayed every time someone sees my meticulously cataloged collection of over 1,000 vinyl records. I live blissfully at home with my husband Brian, son, Steven, 2 dogs Mojo and Penny Lane, and cat named Kit Kat.What is your favorite flower? The tulip. It’s simple, beautiful and still continues to grow after it's been cut down. What do you love most about your job? In addition to design, I also work on preparing everything we need to make our clients’ vision come to life. From candles to antiques to unique glassware, I find the best combination to compliment the floral arrangements. I want to make sure all the small details are ready to go come event day. What inspires you? The amazing group of women I get to work with. They are all so amazing in their own way, and I consider them friends as well as co-workers.
