Posh Petals has been in business for ten years, under the creative direction of Elizabeth Schenk. Elizabeth’s love for floral design began back in her college days while assisting at a local florist in her home town of Bay City, Michigan. From there her vision blossomed and she became very passionate about creating custom arrangements for events and deliveries – eventually opening her own shop to house an expanding inventory and her growing team. Her commitment to creating unique pieces shows in every arrangement that goes out the door and she works closely with her clients no matter how large or small the event or custom delivery may be. Now, Elizabeth and the Posh team handle not only floral but event planning and design inside a lovely little boutique on the west side of Grand Rapids.
Hey there! I’m Elizabeth, the owner and lead designer here at Posh Petals. I started this business about ten years ago as something I did on the side while working full time as a systems analyst for a corporate company. As the business started taking off, I was so blessed that my employer at the time was flexible with my schedule… and they also supported me when I chose to leave and pursue this wonderful business as a retail and event florist. I have the best husband around and we enjoy doing life together, even though we are complete opposites (he’s into hunting, fishing and big trucks, I like to play with flowers, bake and watch rom-com movies). We do, however, share the love of fitness and can often be found in the gym together. Our little toddler boys, Waylon and George, are so cute and sweet — I love being a #boymom! I couldn’t ask for a better team at Posh. The girls we have on staff are hands down the most wonderful employees and all-around good people. Life has given me many blessings throughout the years, and I strive to be positive and happy even on the days when things become a little cloudy.
What is your favorite flower?
Impossible to list just one. I am a huge fan of sweet peas, clematis, lilacs and of course ranunculus. If I can ever get my hands on King Protea, I scoop them up in an instant. And… although I’m not always a fan of the classic red rose, I’ll take a chic new rose variety any day! The girls at the shop always hear me gushing about how pretty the flowers are — it seems like no matter how long I’ve been a florist, flowers never get dull.
What do you love most about your job?
I can’t choose! (And I’m obviously indecisive.) As the owner, I absolutely love seeing the business grow and change on a daily basis. As an employer, I can’t get enough of seeing my staff become better designers; and watching them set goals, improve their skills and tackle anything I throw at them. As a designer, I will always love giving the bride her bouquet and watching her reaction.
What inspires you?
My staff, my husband, my family and the community of business owners in West Michigan. Each of these things inspires me in different ways and I learn from them all every single day.
Hello there! My name is Elyse, and I joined the Posh Petals team in early 2015. I love assisting clients with any type of event, and my expertise is in event coordination. I have over seven years experience working with weddings including bridal fashion, paper products, and design. I’m passionate about each and every detail that goes into creating a smooth event, and I have loved combining the organization of planning with the creativity of floral design.
What is your favorite flower?
Clematis. It’s so delicate, and I love the deep colored ones.
What do you love most about your work?
My clients! Each event is different and brings its own challenges, and I love helping people enjoy that process and alleviating stress.
What inspires you?
Seeing other people succeed. Accomplishments both big and small move us forward, and when we work as a team we inspire each other to create, problem-solve, and design.
Hello! My name is Sam, and I started here as a floral designer in the heat of wedding season 2017! I can most often be found designing wedding floral, and I love that one week I could be installing a custom floral arbor and designing tall statement pieces the next. Each wedding is different, and I love the challenge it brings. Flowers and plants are something I have always loved and held dear, and I wanted a career that included a creative outlet for my always-moving mind. So here I am! Working with amazing women and beautiful blooms, I’ve never had a place that I’ve felt most at home.
What is your favorite flower?
Jeez. I have so very many. The girls at the shop make fun of me because I say “I’m going to cry” every time I see a crazy pretty ranunculus. So, I am going to say ranunculus.
What do you love most about your work?
I love that I get to use my hands to make things that bring joy to other people every day. There is something gratifying about being able to bring a smile to a strangers face just by delivering a flower arrangement or creating their wedding flowers.
What inspires you?
I am inspired everyday by the people I know and love; by the trials they have overcome and HOW they’ve overcome them. I find that learning about life and failures and successes all inspires me to be the best me I can. People inspire me to live my life to its fullest potential.
Hi everyone! Let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Stephani, feel free to call me Steph. I am known as the crazy plant lady, as I have over 57 houseplants. My love for plants drew me to start floral design. I’ve been a studying art for the last 6 years, everything from illustration to pottery. Yet, nothing has quite captivated me like floral design!
Oh jeez, I’ve been dreading this question! It’s so hard for me to choose. I love everything from a simple wax flower to a garden rose. But if you really push me, I think I would have to say a Passion Flower.
What I Love About My Job:
I love being able to create living art; it takes 3D design to another level for me. I also love creating art that everyone can enjoy and find joy in. Handing someone a bouquet and seeing their face light up is very rewarding.
I seem to find my inspiration from the simple things in life. Watching the sun gleam through the leaves of a tree, or listening to the wind blow through a forest. Humanity is another source of inspiration; seeing someone enjoy their work and succeed in life fills me with motivation to continue doing what I love.
My name is Katie, and honestly, I’m not even sure how my journey led me here. But I’m glad it did! Through my past job experiences in the medical and customer service fields, I have learned that I have a strong passion for working one on one with people, learning their needs and how I can best help them. By joining the Posh Petals team, I have been able to use that passion in a creative environment. I love seeing the expression of floral at someone’s wedding, or through the extension of empathy or joy through a floral arrangement.
When I’m not working, you can find me in the gym, LOVE lifting, or doing something active outside with my husband, who I can whole heartedly say is my best friend! We’re so glad our life moved to the west side of the state and love either exploring downtown, or staying in with our cat Arthur.
What is your favorite flower? I’ve honestly been staring at this question for too long…so indecisive, but I think I have a couple. First would be a calla lily because they’re so simple. But then there is the Kahala Rose…LOVE it! If you haven’t seen one, look it up. So pretty.
What do you love most about your work? I crave the connection of working with and around like-minded women who inspire, encourage, and challenge me. And I can say I’ve found that here, which I’m so grateful for. I love talking with the girls at the shop, sharing experiences and laughing. I equally enjoy talking and making connections with community members, customers, and potential business partners, just by sharing my passion for this company.
On the design side, I love the creativity, inspiration, expression and freedom it offers, not to mention the incredible smell you get while getting your hands on some flowers J
What inspires you? My inspiration to now go after what truly makes me happy comes from my faith, my husband, my desire to be my best self, my family, my friends, and the other men and women in the business world who continuously go after what they want each day. Your “long term goals” could be just around the corner!
Hi! My name is Madison, and I started at Posh Petals the summer after graduating from Grand Valley State University as an Event Coordinator. I moved from San Diego, California to pursue my degree, and I am so happy to have made Grand Rapids my home. I worked in a flower shop in high school, and it has been my dream to make a career in the floral and wedding industry ever since! People always comment on how fun it must be to work in a flower shop, and I always tell them they are absolutely correct! I get to be surrounded by beautiful flowers, work alongside amazing girls, and plan unique weddings, how lucky am I?
What is your favorite flower? This is an easy one. I love sunflowers! They just make me so happy.
What do you love most about your work? I love seeing all the hard work come together on event days! Everyone works so hard to make sure everything is planned and designed perfectly, and it is so satisfying to see clients in love with their flowers and outcome of their event.
What inspires you? I am inspired when I see the people around me happy. I love seeing people doing what they love. It is so inspiring to see others going after what they are passionate about, and that makes me want to do the same!
My name is Shana, and my husband and I moved here from Washington State in 2018. My interest in floral design began over five years ago when I took a floriculture class and worked after school at a local flower shop, learning from their top designer. I’ve been in love and worked with flowers ever since! I was so happy to know that when we moved to Michigan I would be able to continue working in floral design, especially at such an amazing shop. When I’m not working with flowers, you’ll find me drinking coffee and spending time with my sweet husband.
Favorite Flower: My favorite flower changes all the time, but right now I’d have to say peonies. They’re so delicate and beautiful, and they make a great focal flower.
What do you love most about your work? What I love most about my work is that it gives me the ability to be creative every day, and no two days are the same. I also love continuing to grow in my design skills and seeing the wedding days come together.
What inspires you? Being with other ladies who are as passionate as me is something that really inspires me. It’s encouraging to see others grow, and I look forward to every day! I love living life to the fullest and am so thankful for the opportunities I’ve had.
Hey there! My name is Jen, and I do event planning and marketing here at Posh Petals! I joined the team in 2018, and I love getting to know the other girls and the never-ending list of flowers. I have been working in event planning for over three years, and I’m excited to bring that experience over to wedding planning. This exciting role allows me to get to know clients and help them execute their vision, which is incredibly fulfilling to me.
Favorite flower: The lotus flower. I was named after the lotus flower (which represents purity) and therefore it is dear to my heart.
What do I love most: The variety that comes with my role. I get to meet clients, talk to vendors, help out with set up, etc. Everyday is different, and I love that.
What inspires me: The meaningfulness that comes with making someone’s day or event as best as it can be. Every event is important, and helping in any way I can to make that event successful inspires me to keep doing what I’m doing.
Hi! I’m Kaitlyn, and after 8 years of staying home to raise my three boys, I’m so stoked to be here. I’ve had a long time to reflect on my true passions, and floral design is one that I have always wanted to pursue. After getting my feet wet with retail floral, I wanted a community-based environment that allowed me to connect directly with customers. That’s how I became a Posh Petals designer, and I love my work.
Favorite Flower: My favorite flowers of all time are lilacs, peony, and poppies. But whenever we get new flowers in I may have a different favorite each week!
What do you love most about your work? I love so many aspects of this job. The girls I work with, the look on someone’s face when they see what has been created just for them, and the creativity that is never ending with design. Every day has the possibility to create something special.
What inspires you? I find relationships of all types and the communication within them inspiring. The ways we interact with friends, co-workers, and significant others can be so unique. To me, relationships shape who we are and how we see and communicate with the world. It’s inspiring that there is no communication barrier with flowers.
